Pasay is reclaimed-land Manila: one of the world's biggest malls, a strip of Vegas-logic casinos, and an airport district. Three different decisions live here. Newport City is the single correct answer if your flight leaves before 9am — it sits across the covered Runway Manila footbridge from Terminal 3, ten minutes on foot with luggage. SM Mall of Asia is worth an evening for the free bayside boardwalk at sunset and the arena. Entertainment City — Solaire, City of Dreams, Okada — is a self-contained resort world; the Okada fountain show is free and genuinely good, and the rest is only for people who want casinos.

The POGO ban emptied a lot of Bay Area office and condo towers from 2024. If you are booking a cheap high-floor apartment with a bay view, read the reviews for occupancy and maintenance complaints first.
Why Newport beats every other airport option
Runway Manila is an elevated, air-conditioned footbridge from Terminal 3 straight into Newport City. That single piece of infrastructure settles the question.
Ten minutes on foot with a suitcase, no road, no traffic, no Grab surge at 4am. Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton and Okura sit at the upper end; Belmont and Savoy run ₱4,500–7,500 and are the ones most people actually book.
For an overnight or a long layover this is not a close call. Every alternative involves a road transfer through a city where a 25-minute drive can become 75 without warning — and the EDSA rebuild running to 2027 has made afternoons and evenings much less predictable.
There is also a casino, a performing arts theatre, a Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill, and — the detail that says most about 2026 Manila — the Marriott here hosted the Philippine launch of the Michelin Guide in October 2025.

Where should I stay near Manila airport?
Newport City, which connects to Terminal 3 by the Runway Manila covered footbridge — a ten-minute walk with luggage. Belmont and Savoy run ₱4,500–7,500; Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton and Okura sit above that. For Terminals 1 and 2 you still need a short shuttle or Grab, but Newport remains the closest reliable base.
Is the Okada Manila fountain show free?
Yes, completely. It runs every 30 minutes from 7pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday and 7pm to midnight Friday to Sunday. It was designed by WET, the company behind the Bellagio fountains, and it is one of the best free things in the metro.
Is SM Mall of Asia worth visiting?
For the free bayside boardwalk at sunset, yes — it is one of the best public sunset spots in the metro. For the mall itself, only if you want air conditioning, the IKEA flagship or an event at MOA Arena. As a sight, a mall is a mall.
Can you swim at Dolomite Beach?
No. Swimming is banned. The artificial white-sand stretch on Manila Bay is a free photo stop and a sunset walk, permanently controversial for environmental reasons, and open roughly 6am to 6pm.
